Prasoon Joshi, a National Award winning lyricist, copywriter and screenwriter, was born on 16 September 1971 in Almora, Uttarakhand, India. Prasoon Joshi’s father was a PCS officer with the Civil Services of India, who was later promoted to the post of Additional Director of Uttarakhand’s Education Service, and Prasoon Joshi’s mother was a Political Science lecturer. Since both his parents were trained classical singers, Prasoon Joshi was exposed to Indian arts, music and culture from a very young age.

Prasoon Joshi was academically bright and talented. In fact, he began writing during his teenage years and published his first book, Main Aur Woh, at the age of 17. Prasoon Joshi completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Physics and then decided to pursue an MBA from the Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad. It was during his MBA days that Prasoon Joshi’s love for culture and arts blossomed and he decided to pursue a career in advertising.

After completing his MBA, Prasoon Joshi embarked on an advertising career with Ogilvy and Mather in Delhi. In a span of 10 years, he rose to the position of an executive creative director, and in 2002, he became the executive vice president and national creative director of McCann-Erickson.

Prasoon Joshi’s passion for advertising pushed him to enhance his knowledge in his field. He worked day and night to come up with outstanding advertisements in newspapers and on the television. In fact, Prasoon Joshi has created award winning advertisements for Asian Paints, Cadbury, Close-up, Ponds and ING, to name a few.

At the age of 35, Prasoon Joshi became the regional creative director for South Asia and South East Asia, McCann-Erickson. And within a few months, he was once again promoted as the executive chairman of McCann Worldgroup India and regional creative director for Asia Pacific. And today, he is the chairman of McCann Worldgroup India.

To be successful in a career, one should be focussed and determined. Prasoon Joshi was certain about his goals and passion in life. Many people today are not focussed and keep switching jobs within a few years. In the field of advertising, Prasoon Joshi has won over 200 national and international awards. In 2003, Prasoon Joshi won the Cannes Lion Award for his outstanding execution of the ‘Thanda Matlab Coca-Cola’ campaign, and in 2007, Media Magazine gave him the title of ‘No. 1 Creative Director in Asia Pacific’.

Apart from conquering the world of advertising, Prasoon Joshi gave a new meaning to Bollywood. He started writing songs for great Bollywood movies, including Hum Tum, Fanaa, Delhi 6 and Rang De Basanti. Also, he started writing dialogues and scripts for movies, some of which have won prestigious awards, including Taare Zameen Par and Chittagong.

In fact, the dialogues and screenplay for Bhaag Milka Bhaag, one of the most outstanding films today, have also been written by Prasoon Joshi. In the film industry, Prasoon Joshi won numerous awards, including the Filmfare Best Lyricist Award for ‘Chand Sifarish’ in Fanaa and the National Film Award for Best Lyrics in Taare Zameen Par. In 2012, he was presented with IRDS Film Award as the best lyricist for ‘Mauka’ in Aarakshan. And this year, he received the National Award for ‘Bolo Na’ in Chittagong.

Prasoon Joshi has won the hearts of millions in India and beyond with his outstanding advertisements, lyrics and screenplays. His dedication to his work has earned him many awards in a short period of time.

In 2010, Prasoon Joshi was part of the three-member Core Creative Advisory Committee for the opening and closing ceremonies for Commonwealth Games 2010, along with renowned screenwriter Shyam Benegal and lyricist Javed Akhtar.
